On Tuesday, April 14, Maryville Academy held its annual Night of Hope event at Sky on Nine, bringing together supporters, partners and community leaders for an inspiring evening in support of its mission of protecting children and strengthening families.

His Eminence Cardinal Blase Joseph Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, was presented with the inaugural Legacy of Hope Award. The award was established to recognize individuals whose leadership and compassion reflect Maryville’s longstanding commitment to children and families in need. Cardinal Cupich was honored for his steadfast dedication to faith, service and advocacy for vulnerable populations across the Chicago area and beyond.

The evening, emceed by WGN-TV anchor Dina Bair, featured a cocktail reception, dinner and a keynote address delivered by Cardinal Cupich.

In his remarks, Cardinal Cupich expressed deep appreciation for Maryville’s mission and its enduring impact.

“Evolving over these 143 years, Maryville continues to enhance the lives of children and their families by providing care, education and the opportunities that children and young people need in order to flourish, to develop, thrive,” he said.

He emphasized that while programs may change over time, the foundation of the work remains constant.

“Strengthening families, helping children unconditionally, ensuring their safety and their dignity as well as the means of their flourishing. This is the heart of this mission,” he said.

Cardinal Cupich also reflected on the meaning of the evening.

“Tonight is about hope. And let’s be clear, hope is not optimism. Optimism is about tomorrow, hope is about today,” he said.

The event brought friends and supporters together for an evening of connection and shared purpose. Proceeds from Night of Hope will benefit medically fragile children served through Maryville’s Children’s Healthcare Center as well as the Maryville Crisis Nursery, supporting critical care and services for young people and families in urgent need.

Maryville extends its gratitude to its sponsors, its generous donors and the staff at Sky on Nine. Their support ensures that Maryville can continue to protect children, strengthen families and help those it serves reach their fullest potential through intellectual, spiritual, moral and emotional growth.
