Maryville Golf Academy

In the spirit of tradition and excellence Saint Mary’s Training School (renamed Maryville Academy in 1950) started in 1883. The Maryville Golf Academy continues Maryville’s 140-year tradition of teaching children and young adults skill sets and life lessons and building their character to prepare them for a brighter and more successful future.

Established in 1994, the Maryville Golf Academy offers the Maryville children residing on the Des Plaines campus the opportunity to work, play and practice at neighboring golf facilities. It continues its growth and outreach, serving hundreds of children, youth and young adults who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn and grow in the game.

The Maryville Golf Academy develops them as players, caddies or clubmakers. They learn to play golf as well as the values and lessons inherent in the game that are embodied by Maryville and the Maryville Golf Academy founders, such as etiquette, respect, honesty, perseverance, responsibility and sportsmanship.

What we Offer

  • We are teaching life skills to boys and girls in our Maryville residential programs for displaced children, parenting and pregnant teens, the Department of Juvenile Justice Transitional Living Program and Charles H. Walsh Sr. Academy & Career Tech High School.
  • We offer in-school golf and caddy training at faith-based entities such as Providence St. Mel, Christ the King and Hope Excel.
  • We train caddies at the Salvation Army and Joan Kroc Community Center.
  • We are vested in areas where our children are vulnerable specifically in the Austin, Marquette, Sout Shore, Jackson Park and Pullman neighborhoods.
  • Inspired by two of the Illinois PGA Foundation Initiatives, Project HOPE and Golf Works, the Maryville Golf Academy grew its programs to include serving veterans and their families.

Congratulations to the winners of the 29th Annual IPGA/Maryville Gleason Cup Invitational held at the Evanston Golf Club on August 28. Thank you to our golfers, sponsors, donors and Gleason Cup Committee for another successful Gleason Cup golf event!
