Maryville Crisis Nursery to host pinwheel planting April 10
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children and supporting families in need.
The Maryville Crisis Nursery invites you to join in planting pinwheels in front of the Center for Children, located at 6650 W. Irving Park Road, on Friday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m.
Lily Tanner, evening supervisor at the Crisis Nursery, shares the importance of the blue pinwheel: “Each blue pinwheel we plant is a reminder of the bright, carefree childhood every child deserves. Its playful design reflects our shared hope for a safe, nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive.”
The pinwheel is the national symbol of child abuse prevention. It represents our collective responsibility to strengthen families, support our communities and ensure every child has the opportunity to experience a healthy, joyful future.
“During Child Abuse Prevention Month, the act of planting pinwheels serves as a physical reminder to all of us to take meaningful action to protect and uplift the children in our lives,” Tanner said.
Community involvement is essential to prevention efforts. By attending the pinwheel planting and wearing blue, participants will join the Maryville Crisis Nursery parents and children, volunteers and staff in standing together to reinforce the message that every child deserves safety, stability and the opportunity to thrive.
Creating a pinwheel garden represents efforts to focus on community activities that support families and public policies that prioritize prevention, helping ensure child abuse and neglect never occur.
