Carl Toren MD is a board-certified pediatrician in practice since 1987. He is a graduate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed a residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Memorial Hospital (Lurie Children’s Hospital) in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Toren also received a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) with a focus on epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Toren has devoted his career to the underserved, first for three years as a medical missionary in western Ethiopia. Upon his return to the Chicago area, he served as Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer for two community health centers, first at the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago for nine years, then at Chicago Family Health Center for fifteen years. In his role as CMO, he led an active clinical practice, and oversaw the medical staff and programs, such as Quality Improvement and Peer Review.
In addition to his work with community health centers, Dr. Toren served as the Medical Consultant to the City of Chicago’s Head Start program for more than a decade. He was the Medical Services Director for the Chicago Behavioral Hospital, an adolescent mental health hospital. He also currently serves as the Medical Services Director for the Maryville Children’s Healthcare Center, a transitional care unit for medically complex children.
Dr. Toren recently joined the East Chicago office of HealthLinc Inc., a community health center in northwest Indiana as pediatrician and Population Health Champion, where he continues patient care and assists with care coordination of defined populations.
Dr. Toren is a member of the clinical faculty of Lurie Children’s Hospital and University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.
