Chicago Area Alternative Education League
Maryville Jen School has been a proud member of the Chicago Area Alternative Education League (CAAEL) since the school’s inception. CAAEL is an independent organization, founded and operated by Special Education Professionals to serve students in alternative school programs. Currently, 40+ programs in Northern Illinois are CAAEL members, participating in interscholastic athletics and academic competitions including: flag football, volleyball, basketball, softball, bowling, chess, spelling bees and academic bowls. Competitions occur on a regular weekly basis, providing all Maryville Jen School students an academic and behavioral motivator to succeed in school. Fully, over 80% of Maryville Jen students participate in CAAEL activities throughout the school year. CAAEL’s mission to provide opportunities valuing good sportsmanship and fair play is a true positive alternative for Maryville Jen School students and complements perfectly the Jen philosophy of respectful reciprocity. Maryville Jen School students shine in CAAEL participation, receiving multiple CAAEL Spirit Awards, emblematic of exemplary sportsmanship throughout each athletic season. CAAEL participation has shown to be an integral part of the school lives of Maryville Jen School students, as they strive to achieve eligibility for each week’s game.
