DES PLANES, IL- The 47th Annual Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon is scheduled on March 12 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Manzo’s Banquet at 1571 S. Elmhurst Rd. Des Plaines, 60018. The luncheon will pay tribute to #6 Kyler Gordon, the Chicago Bears cornerback and the 2025 Ed Block Courage Award recipient. A meet & greet with possibly other members of the Bears team will take place from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

The Ed Block Courage Award recipients are regarded as symbols of professionalism, strength and dedication. The winners are considered role models to their community. He is seen as a crusader for victims of abuse, violence and neglect. There are 32 Courages Houses connected with NFL teams and the Bears have selected the Maryville Crisis Nursery as their Courage House.

The Maryville Crisis Nursery is a vital and innovative program that provides free short-term care for parents in distress and experiencing a crisis. The Crisis Nursery protects children, from birth to age six, from abuse, neglect or trauma.

The luncheon also benefits Maryville’s Ed McCaskey Scholarship Fund. In 2003, Ed McCaskey went home to heaven. His wife Virginia McCaskey and their children established a scholarship for Maryville children in Ed’s name.  The McCaskey Family and the Chicago Bears support this Scholarship Fund each year by sponsoring the Maryville the Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon. Each year, we invite an alum who benefitted from scholarship funds to talk about her/his experience and thank the donors at the luncheon.

Ed McCaskey dedicated his life to football following his marriage to Virginia in 1943. He was the 1992 Honorary National Champion of the 14th Annual Ed Block Courage Award. He was known as a giver. If you worked for the Bears, you knew Ed. He was also a long-time supporter of Maryville. The Ed McCaskey scholarship fund was established to carry on the spirit of giving that was such a big part of Ed.
